This installation, combining painting and sculpture, is designed not only to aesthetically enrich a university environment but also to serve as a source of cultural learning and reflection. It offers a contemporary interpretation of Cyprus’ identity, drawing inspiration from folk life and intangible heritage.

The central theme focuses on human figures representing traditional professions of the past—such as the newspaper vendor, chair-maker, embroiderer, baker—set within an imagined village of mudbrick and stone houses, narrow alleys, and lost neighborhoods that once shaped the island's rural life. These figures stand in the foreground like actors on a stage, evoking a deep sense of familiarity, nostalgia, and quiet dignity.

In the background, the composition is framed by the traditional “Foinikotó” lace pattern of the Venetian type, a symbol deeply rooted in Cypriot female craftsmanship. It forms a protective, symbolic sky above the scene, embracing the characters and adding depth, cultural context, and continuity.

This work aims to raise awareness around cultural identity and intangible heritage, while encouraging emotional connection through memory. It invites the viewer to reflect on the evolution of our society, the value of tradition, and our collective roots—bridging past and present through art.

«Ίχνη Μνήμης: Άνθρωποι και Τόπος»

Το έργο είναι μια εικαστική εγκατάσταση (installation) που ενώνει ζωγραφική και γλυπτική, σχεδιασμένη για να εμπλουτίσει έναν πανεπιστημιακό χώρο όχι μόνο αισθητικά, αλλά και παιδαγωγικά. Αποτελεί μια σύγχρονη ερμηνεία της πολιτιστικής μας ταυτότητας, αντλώντας έμπνευση από τον λαϊκό πολιτισμό και την άυλη κληρονομιά της Κύπρου.

Κύριο θέμα του έργου είναι ανθρώπινες φιγούρες που εκπροσωπούν παραδοσιακά επαγγέλματα του παρελθόντος – όπως ο εφημεριδοπώλης, η κεντήτρια, ο καρεκλάς, η φουρνάρισσα – τοποθετημένες σε ένα φαντασιακό χωριό με παλιά πλιθαρένια και πετρόκτιστα σπίτια, σοκάκια και γειτονιές που έχουν χαθεί με τον χρόνο αλλά επιβιώνουν στη συλλογική μνήμη. Οι φιγούρες στέκονται μπροστά στον θεατή όπως ηθοποιοί σε σκηνή, φέρνοντας στο παρόν μια χαμένη αλλά βαθιά οικεία πραγματικότητα.

Στο βάθος, δεσπόζει ένα μοτίβο από το παραδοσιακό «φοινικοτό» κέντημα τύπου Βενίς – στοιχείο που αγκαλιάζει τον κόσμο του έργου, προσφέροντας συμβολικά σταθερότητα, συνέχεια και προστασία. Το κέντημα λειτουργεί ως φόντο και παράλληλα τονίζει τη συμβολή της γυναικείας χειροτεχνίας στην πολιτιστική μας κληρονομιά.

Το έργο προωθεί την πολιτισμική ενσυναίσθηση, ενισχύει τη σύνδεση με τις ρίζες μας και δημιουργεί έναν χώρο αναστοχασμού και συναισθηματικής σύνδεσης. Στόχος είναι να προσεγγίσει τον θεατή με σεβασμό προς το παρελθόν, δίνοντάς του την ευκαιρία να στοχαστεί πάνω στην πολιτιστική συνέχεια, την έννοια της ταυτότητας και την κοινωνική εξέλιξη.
